About the brand

Jil Sander opened in Hamburg in 1968 and showed her first womenswear collection in 1973, building the house on precise tailoring, restrained colour and serious fabric. The mainline has passed through several creative directors since, most notably Raf Simons (2005-2012) and Lucie and Luke Meier (2017-2025), and each era reads differently on the rack. Jil Sander Navy was a lower-priced line launched in the late 2000s and later wound down. Jil Sander+, introduced under the Meiers, is a separate outdoor and technical line rather than a cheaper version of the tailoring.

What the secondary market misses

The mispricing sits with Navy. Sellers routinely shorten "Jil Sander Navy" to "Jil Sander" in listing titles, and Navy pieces then get priced against mainline comparables they were never meant to compete with. Navy labels name the line, so a listing without a clear label photo is one to question before bidding. Jil Sander+ is less of a trap because it occupies different territory, parkas and technical layers rather than tailoring, so judge it against other technical outerwear instead of mainline coats.

The single most useful thing a buyer probably doesn't know
A listing titled "Jil Sander" tells you the house, not the line. Navy pieces carry the line name on the label, and that one word is the difference between a fair price and paying mainline money for the diffusion range.
